The height of safety
Anchor Safe is proud to have been awarded the contract to supply and install safe roof access systems for all three stages of the Wagga Wagga Health Service Redevelopment. The multi-million-dollar project, due for full completion in 2021, will deliver a contemporary and integrated health service to meet the needs of communities in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District in New South Wales. Stages 1 and 2 of the redevelopment, which involved the construction of a new Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and Mental Health Unit, are both complete. While the third and final stage of the project is currently underway and includes the construction of a new Ambulatory Care Building and car park linked to the new hospital, as well as a new Breastscreen NSW facility in the Wagga Wagga CBD.
Delivering results from top to bottom
Anchor Safe’s skill and experience in delivering high quality, roof access and safety solutions for large-scale developments came to the fore during our work on the first two stages of the Wagga Wagga Health Service Redevelopment.
The new, purpose built, seven-story Acute Services Building constructed in Stage 2 is the centrepiece of the new Wagga Wagga Base Hospital. It houses the hospital’s Emergency Department, operating theatres, women’s and children’s inpatient units and intensive care units, as well as a rooftop helipad. Anchor Safe installed raptor rails for abseiling down the building’s façade for cleaning and maintenance, and fitted abseil anchor points to facilitate access to areas where raptor rails were not required. In addition, walkways with balustrades were installed to provide safe access to plant rooms and equipment on the rooftops of the Acute Services Building and adjacent buildings. Angled, caged ladders were also installed between different roof levels, including parapet step over ladders with platforms. Added access and fall protection was provided through the installation of horizontal static line systems on areas of the roofs that were too narrow for anchor points.
Testimony to the precision and care with which the Anchor Safe team executed the first two stages of the project, the company was awarded the contract for Stage 3.
