It’s National Safe work month and this year’s theme is ‘Think Safe, Work Safe, Be Safe.’ We’ve all been doing our part in thinking safely when it comes to social distancing and masking up this year, but this month is a good time to reflect on safety of a different kind. Height Safety.
Falls from heights, between 2015 and 2019 was the main cause of fatalities in both the Construction services and Building construction industry sub-divisions, resulting in 49 deaths across the industry. A third (33%) of fatalities in the Construction industry involved falls from a building or other type of structure, and almost a quarter (24%) involved a fall from a ladder.
Safe Work Australia statistics show us this fatality cause is a particular problem in younger inexperienced workers. It’s clear there is a need for workplaces in Australia to do much better when it comes to educating employees to think safe & work safe, which ultimately leads to being safe.
We urge you to use the services of an independent height safety advisor and compliance manager. Height safety is a specialised and complex issue that demands the skill and knowledge of experts. At Anchor Safe, we take on all your compliance responsibilities – helping minimise risks, meet your responsibilities and keep your workers safe.
Some of our most recent projects included recertifying & installing safety systems for sewage plants, sale yards, large shopping centers & government facilities. View our system solutions below.
Together, we can help reduce those terrible statistics on falls from height. This October, like us, commit to improving health and safety in your workplace.
Get involved by:
- Visiting the National Safe Work Month website and accessing the resource kit
- Running a safety initiative in your workplace, take our free height safety health check test to determine if your responsibilities have been met.
- Sharing your safety initiative on social – use the hashtag #safeworkmonth
- Train your team to ‘think Safe, Work Safe & be Safe.’ Anchor Safe conduct working safely at heights training every month at the Albury location. Legislation requires all employees to be assessed for competency prior to being allowed to work at a height without direct supervision. Get your team trained before it’s too late.
Let’s aim to make a change by next year’s Safe Work Month.
