The height of safety
Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) believes being safe at heights is just as important as safety on the road. With an upcoming project to install rooftop solar panels, they had identified some room for improvement to keep contractors installing the panels and those maintaining them safe. So, they asked us to manage a height safety upgrade and skylight fall protection project.
Delivering results from top to bottom
We worked in two areas: on the main building and the ‘north east’ building.
The primary safety concern at the main building was the existence of hundreds of metres of brittle skylights. Workers installing and maintaining the rooftop solar panels would be at risk from these potential hazards. We supplied over 700 metres of exterior skylight mesh protection to manage this hazard.
In addition, a perimeter guardrail was installed to safeguard contractors involved in ongoing maintenance near the edge of the building.
The same perimeter guardrail was installed on the north east building. This building also received a new access ladder to the roof – strong and sturdy, it features a cage at the top for extra protection.
We pride ourselves on clear and consistent communication with our stakeholders and this project was no different. We worked collaboratively with the tenants, property owner and facility management company to ensure the project was delivered with our customary care and quality work, in a timely and cost-effective manner.
