The height of safety
Large hospital facilities like Bairnsdale Regional Health Services house critical rooftop equipment, including HVAC units and cooling towers, that require regular maintenance to ensure the health and safety of patients and staff. The hospital reached out to Anchor Safe to design and install a comprehensive roof access system that would guarantee safe and efficient maintenance procedures, particularly for their cooling towers, which demand frequent cleaning due to the risk of Legionnaire’s disease.
Bairnsdale Regional Health Services, a prominent healthcare provider in East Gippsland, faced a significant challenge: their existing roof access was inadequate for safely reaching the equipment that required regular servicing. This was especially crucial for the cooling towers, where safe access was vital but currently lacking.
Delivering results from top to bottom
The Anchor Safe team designed, supplied & installed a height safety solution across the hospital’s expansive site, which included multiple buildings. One of the key challenges was accessing the cooling towers, which were situated in a particularly hard-to-reach area. The solution involved the installation of a cantilever platform which provided safe access to the exhaust fans, and a levelled walkway and guardrail system that ensured a safe path across the roof to service the air conditioning units. This approach eliminated the need for rope access, enhancing safety and efficiency for maintenance personnel.
The importance of reliable and effective height safety systems in hospitals cannot be overstated. They not only protect maintenance teams but also play a critical role in the hospital’s operations, ensuring that vital equipment is maintained without compromising safety. Anchor Safe’s turnkey approach provided Bairnsdale Regional Health Services with peace of mind, knowing that their staff are protected, risks are minimized, and compliance obligations are met. Additionally, our client benefits from real-time access to online asset registers and receives timely reminders for re-certification and maintenance, ensuring that safety standards are continually upheld.
