The height of safety
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) are a private, Queensland company that proudly takes on the challenge of connecting Australia to the world while prioritising the safety and well-being of its employees, contractors, and visitors. With a commitment to maintaining high safety standards, they sought a reliable height safety partner to enhance their height safety access and fall protection systems.
BAC approached us with concerns about their ageing safety systems. The existing systems had steel components that were not holding out in the highly corrosive environment. They also required a solution to gain access to some areas where they were not able to put permanent ladders due to the impact this could have on airport operations.
The Anchor Safe team conducted a height safety audit across the entire site which involved a thorough inspection of all existing height safety equipment and identifying any non-compliances across the site. Anchor Safe emerged as the ideal partner for BAC to not only address existing safety concerns but also provide long-term reliability and efficiency across their portfolio of buildings.
Delivering results from top to bottom.
The Anchor Safe team designed, supplied and installed safe & efficient access to the lower airport awnings which have been difficult to manage previously for BAC due to the need to access them from high traffic areas in the airport terminals. Our design team collaborated with BAC to design a hassle-free system that provided access from the higher roof down to the awnings to reduce risk, make it more practical and reduce the impact on other operations.
Our team were able to address BAC’s major concern with the existing systems which was highly corroded, by removing the existing systems and installing a corrosion resistant system constructed with 316 Grade stainless steel components. We also designed and installed a removable ladder system for them to gain access to the areas where aesthetics was a concern. We worked with the BAC to create a seamless changeover of the systems that didn’t interrupt their operations schedules and maintenance requirements.
Height safety systems installed include:
- Almost 3 km of static lines were installed, ensuring optimal safety for workers.
- All non-compliant static lines were identified and replaced with compliant static lines.
- To facilitate safe access to terminal satellites, 6 mini access ladders were supplied and installed.
- Installed 7 platform and ladder support brackets to lower awnings.
The collaboration between Brisbane Airport Corporation and Anchor Safe yielded significant enhancements in safety and compliance across the airport premises. By investing in a state-of-the-art safety solution and quality installation, our client now has peace of mind knowing that employees and contractors are safe, risks are minimised, and responsibilities are met. The project stands as a testament to Anchor Safe’s dedication to keeping workers and rooftops safe, reinforcing our position as a trusted partner in height safety and compliance.
