The height of safety

One of NSW’s newest public schools, Lindfield Learning Village opened its doors to its first wave of students at the start of the 2019 school year. Built on the site of the former UTS Ku-ring-gai campus in Sydney’s Upper North Shore, the school will eventually cater for 2,000 students from Kindy to Year 12. We worked with Taylor Constructions, the lead contractor on the re-development of the campus, to introduce clever access solutions that will facilitate safe rooftop maintenance for the refurbished facility.

Delivering results from top to bottom

While Lindfield Learning Village will be breaking new ground through the application of state-of-the art teaching techniques, the Ku-ring-gai site has long been home to education.

The site was originally developed as the William Balmain Teaching College which opened in 1971 and was part of UTS from 1990 until 2005. The brick and concrete buildings are set amongst native bushland including large eucalypts, making rooftop maintenance and internal access to the insulated roof an absolute necessity.

During the completion of Stage 1 of the campus’ re-development, Taylor Constructions sought our advice on how to ensure the ongoing maintenance of the roof could be carried out safely and efficiently.

We recommended and installed the Kombi Platform Stair combination at the main roof access point. Every piece of height safety equipment we supply, including stairs and platforms, is custom-built to specifications and fully compliant with AS/NZ standards. The beauty of the Kombi Platform Stair combination is that you have the flexibility to adapt the design to suit the installation. This ensured the lightweight, but robust aluminium platform was the perfect fit for the roof access point.

A modular system, the Kombi Platform Stair combination was also able to be easily transported to site and onto the roof by the installation team.
